Other Stuff

There are heaps of other things, which are not talked about in detail on this website, but which may make someone may feel very unhappy or stressed. We recognise that these can be very serious problems, which someone may need help and support with.

Anger
People experience problems as a result of their own and other people's anger. Anger can often be a sign that other things are going on for a young person, and may not be the actual problem. If you or someone you care about has problems with anger and anger management there is a number of things that may help, but talking to someone about where they are at, and what is making them angry, is usually the first step.

Violence
It is never okay for someone to be violent towards you, or for you to be violent towards others. Information about violence and limiting its influence in our lives is available at www.livingwithoutviolence.org.nz.

Low Self Esteem
Lots of young people have problems with low self-esteem. Feeling stink about yourself happens occasionally, but if it is the way you feel all the time, it may be good to talk to someone about it. There may be some really simple things you can do to start liking yourself a bit more. A good person may be a school guidance counsellor, or you may want to check out the Auckland survival kit for other places you could go in your area for support around something in particular which maybe causing you to feel stink.

Health Problems
Long term physical health problems such as illnesses and disabilities can have an effect on the way we feel about ourselves and can be very stressful. Talking to someone about health problems and the way they make us feel, and how cope with them, can be very helpful.

Grief
It can be really tough overcoming losing someone we love. Getting on with life can be hard and sometimes the grief we feel can lead to other problems, such as depression or feeling really stressed long term. If you or someone you care about needs help around the loss of a loved one try having a look at the resources available at www.skylight.org.nz and if need be talk to someone you trust about how you feel.

There may be another problem which is stressing you out. Remember headspace.org's main message is "if in doubt, talk it out".
