About Us

Headspace is a community resource. It is aimed at providing good information about mental health and illness for young people, their family/whanau and their schools. These pages are a work in progress and we welcome any feedback about their content. Email us on headhoncho@headspace.org.nz with your comments.

**Important**
Headspace is not an interactive website and we cannot answer personal problems via email. If you or someone you know needs to talk to someone there are places that can help. Check out our Auckland survival kit if you live in the Auckland area or our Cool Links page for more information websites. If you are anywhere in NZ and need to talk to someone then you can phone Youthline and they will also be able to tell you about services available in your area.

The Kari Centre
This is a centre where specialist treatment is available for some, but not all, of the problem areas discussed on this website. Established in 1996, the Kari centre provides services to 0-18 year olds experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems, and their family/whanau, and who live in central Auckland. The services are only available following referral from a General Practitioner or other person who knows the young person in a professional capacity (e.g. School Guidance Counsellor or CYF social worker). There are three similar services in other parts of Auckland (see Auckland survival kit).

The Kari Centre is located at:

Building 13
Greenlane Clinical Centre

Liaison Education Adolescent Project (LEAP)
Headspace is also part of LEAP which is a Kari Centre initiative set up in 1998. LEAP aims to improve relationships between The Kari centre and the community. Working with schools, GPs and other health providers LEAP provides education, liaison and consultation aimed at promoting a better understanding about mental health and illness and the services provided at the Kari Centre. Information about what LEAP may provide to schools, GPs or other services involved with young people can be gained by checking out the LEAP resources page or by contacting the co-ordinator below:
